The federal government and its members were just shocked to find that the IRS had targeted TEA Party members for inappropriate audits and harassment when applying for non-profit status. Republicans and Democrats alike expressed their distain for the mistreatment of specific people based on their political beliefs, and multiple agencies launched probes to get to the bottom of the political suppression and intimidation. Lois Lerner swore it must have been a few rogue IRS agents who initiated the targeting.
But fast forward a few months and according to the Daily Caller, FBI and IRS officials have failed to contact any of the TEA Party members victimized by the IRS. You would think that investigating agencies would want to hear from the victims in a crime, so why has the FBI failed to reach out?
“Neither the FBI nor any of the investigations have contacted any of our clients,” ACLJ chief counsel Jay Sekulow told The Daily Caller.
More than four months have passed since beleaguered IRS official Lois Lerner apologized for her agency improperly targeting conservatives with extensive and sometimes harassing audits.
Could it be that there are some powerful people who do not want questions to be answered about who ordered the inappropriate targeting? According to the Daily Caller, IRS official Lois Lerner knew about the targeting, and may have even colluded with Democrat organizations to specifically target conservatives and TEA Partier’s for harassment.
“Tea Party Matter very dangerous… Counsel and Judy Kindell need to be in on this one… Cincy should probably NOT have these cases,” Lerner said in a February 2011 email, despite the fact that IRS officials initially claimed that the agency’s Cincinnati office was solely responsible for the improper targeting of tea party and conservative groups.
“Perhaps the FEC will save the day,” Lerner said in an email, responding to a complaint the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee registered with the Federal Elections Commission. The IRS and FEC reportedly collaborated on conservative targeting.
And this is where we have gotten to in America, where officials being paid with our tax dollars wish to suppress a particular political element. I don’t know why Lois Lerner still has her job, or frankly why she hasn’t been charged with an actual crime, since she had a hand in directing the IRS to bully individuals based on their political affiliation. When an organization that has the power to audit, which can have a serious financial affect on the ones being audited; and when the IRS attempts to prevent particular political organizations from forming, thus favoring the opposition (remember other political organizations like Media Matters enjoy non-profit tax status), it is time for drastic measures to counter this attack on individual expression and liberty. This is a sign that it is time to repeal the 16th amendment allowing for an income tax, and abolish the IRS, since it has been proven to have been used as a bludgeoning tool for political dissent.
